Meet Chop our scruffy senior boy

Chop was found on the side of the road in a shocking condition. His fur was mated and dirty and he had a big untreated wound on his head. He came immediately when the volunters called him and went straight to the vet to scan for a chip and treat his wounds. Before we even get there we got a call from the municipality about him. It turns out that Chop had an owner who let him roam free in the streets and someone saw us putting him in the car. We were not sure if we were relieved we found his owner as it was obvious Chop was neglected. But the shocking part comes next. The municipality did not call us to take the dog, the called us because the owner of Chop wanted to make sure that we did not return Chop back to him and take him to the shelter instead. There was no point to argue at the point as Chop deserved better.

Chop is about 9 years old, nothing now reminds of the boy we got from the streets that day. He is very good with other dogs and he does not mind about cats at all. He is very loving and loves his food. Chop deserves to spend his senior years in a loving home having the comforts he never had in his life before.

Chop was bitten by a sandfly and got leishmania. He has received treatment for this and it is now dormant and under control. Leishmania is controllable and NOT life shortening if monitored correctly, he needs to take an inexpensive medication to make sure that the disease stays dormant and under control. The rescue is very knowledgeable about leishmania which is not transmittable to other dogs or humans and can provide a lot of support.
