🏃‍♀️ looking for an active home in the countryside

Hi, I’m Joanne and I’m nearly 2 years old and medium sized (13kg approx).
I am originally from Cyprus where I was dumped in the woods because I was too scared to hunt - loud noises and sudden movements make me nervous.

Lucky for me, I was rescued and taken to a shelter where I realised that not all humans are bad after all. I made friends and started feeling better, so in October 2022, I moved to my lovely foster home on the Isle of Wight. My foster mummy really loves me and says I’m now ready to start looking for my forever home.

So… what kind of home would be best for me?

I need an experienced, quiet but active home as I love my walks and I’m very energetic. My new owners will need to be experienced with nervous dogs, and understanding that I’m going to need time and patience. I’d prefer to have someone around most of the time as I don’t like being left alone. You’ll need to be patient with me - it will take me a while to trust you but then you’ll see what a fabulous girl I am!

I’d love a big garden with 6 foot fencing to play in as I love zoomies and enjoy playing with my doggy friends.
As I’m still worried by loud noises, a calm, adult-only home would be better for me. I’m very shy with people I don’t know. If we have human visitors at my foster home, I prefer to go to my crate where I feel safe.
I’m still working on my toilet training because I was scared to go out in garden in the dark for a long time. I’m clever though, so I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it soon, especially as I’m getting more confident and the weather is getting better now!
As I’m nervous, I need to stay on lead to keep me safe when I’m out for walks. I’m good on the lead but very excited when I meet other doggies so I’ll need some help with calmer greetings.

I have a lovely bond with my foster mum. I’m happy for her to pick me up and put me in the car and I’m happy for her to give me a shower when I’m muddy after a walk. Most of all I like lying on the sofa with her for cuddles! Sometimes I even lie on my back with my tootsies in the air and let her tickle my tummy!
I love my food too - that will help a lot when I’m learning new skills!

I also love other dogs and they give me confidence, so a home with at least one other friendly, confident doggy would be ideal for me. I’ve met lots of dogs - big and small - and I love them all! I’m happy to share and I’m very playful so I definitively need an active and fun-loving dog pal.
Although I live with cats in my foster home, I’m a little wary of them. I think I’d rather live without cats as it would be one less thing for me to think about! But if I do live with one, they would have to be dog savvy and I’d need slow introductions.

I will need to meet my forever family several times to get to know them and trust them before moving to my new home. The most important thing to remember is that I will need time and patience to fully settle. I went through a lot before I was rescued and it made me fearful of many things, but I’m young and learn fast and all I want is to be happy and feel safe.

So… are you the “happily ever after” I’m looking for? If so please send a message to the lovely ladies at STAR or fill in an application form!
