Thunder
Thunder is a 3-year-old male Spaniel Cross with a medium to large build, weighing approximately 20-25kg. He has been in the shelter that we help rehome some of their dogs, since November 2022.
He was found as a stray and shelter life is challenging for a dog with his energy levels and intelligence
This is his full description from his trainer in the shelter
He has a striking appearance with a unique blend of traits that make him an endearing and lovable companion. Thunder is known for his friendly and affectionate nature. He is exceptionally good with people and craves human attention. His affectionate disposition makes him a perfect candidate for a loving home where he can form a strong bond with his guardian.
However, Thunder's exuberance and high energy levels mean that he may sometimes struggle to contain his enthusiasm, especially when excited. This is where a patient and experienced guardian can make a significant difference in
Thunder's behavior. Thunder is a high-energy dog. He thrives on physical and mental stimulation, making him an ideal companion for an active individual or family. Regular exercise and playtime will be essential to keep him happy and healthy. One of Thunder's standout qualities is his intelligence. He is highly trainable and responds well to commands and positive reinforcement. His eagerness to learn and please his guardian makes him an excellent candidate for training and mental stimulation activities.
Thunder is generally okay with other dogs when he is on a lead. He can interact with both female and male dogs under controlled circumstances. However, he may initially exhibit some reactivity when meeting other dogs, which can be managed by a guardian who understands Thunder's needs and has established trust with him. It's important to note that Thunder is not comfortable with off-lead interactions, especially with male dogs. Therefore, he would be best suited to a home where he can be the sole canine companion.
Thunder may exhibit attention-seeking behaviors such as jumping and occasional barking. These behaviors can be addressed through training and proper guidance. He is highly food motivated, making treats a valuable tool for reinforcing good behavior. Thunder is also somewhat toy motivated, and toys can help keep him mentally engaged and entertained.
Thunder has shown some issues with resource guarding, particularly when it comes to food, in the presence of other dogs or pets.
Thunder has not displayed any particularly destructive behaviors, which is a positive sign of his adaptability and good behavior when given the proper attention and stimulation. Thunder would thrive in a home with experienced dog owners who are familiar with high-energy breeds. He needs a dedicated guardian who can provide him with the attention, exercise, and training he requires.
Thunder would be best suited as the only dog in the household to prevent any potential conflicts with other canines. An active lifestyle and a commitment to meeting Thunder's mental and physical needs are essential for his happiness and well-being. In summary, Thunder is a smart, affectionate, and trainable dog who is looking for a loving and experienced guardian to provide him with the structure, exercise, and attention he needs to thrive. With the right care and guidance, Thunder can become a loyal and loving companion for years to come.
Children must be over 15 years old, Thunder is wonderful with children but his excitement level can be quite high and a nice secured garden is also a requirement.
Thunder walks very well on the lead and off lead can only be allowed in secured fields with no other dogs.
He is healthy, neutered, blood tests including brucella Canis, and ready to fly to his experienced forever sofa
